If you call USCIS 1800 number, and you ask the representative to raise a service request then they email the service center asking for details. Most of the time, personnel from service center will call back with the information that you have requested. If you learn there is a way you can email the service center, please post here.

I am also in the same situation that my company's attorney is not giving me I140 receipt number. They just say that it was filed in first week May but don't have the receipt number yet.

Bill Text - 111th Congress (2009-2010) - THOMAS (Library of Congress) (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:S.3702:)
A bill has been referred to the committee and sponsored by Sen. Sessions.
Sen. Sessions is very anti-amnesty, and looks like he is pushing a bill for the legal immigrants-in-waiting. We do not yet know the contents of the bill, but hopefully by later this week, the text of the bill would be available in the library of congress.
I think given the current political environment we can get the senators and house representatives to vote in its favor.
Lets see what the actual contents of the bill are tomorrow/day-after.

Every once in a while a government agency in the immigration space does the right thing. If I'm to maintain credibility and objectivity in the eyes of readers, I need to call out functional behavior when I see it -- notwithstanding that this blog is dedicated to dysfunctions in the immigration ecosystem. The agency worthy of plaudits is a unit within the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice known as the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Employment Practices (OSC). Under Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) 274B(c) [8 U.S. Code 1324b(c)], the OSC is charged, among...

Scenario:
Working on H1. Wife is on H4. Waiting for our EADs.
Planning to work for H1-GC sponsorer employer until (or I should say 6 months after) we get the GC.
I am running a website and am planning to sell the advertising space?
Q1: Can a H1 legally receive the money from website advertising on his/her website?
Q2: Can a H1 register DBA?
Q3: How about if H1 uses EAD, can then he register DBA and legally receive the money from website advertising? (I know once you use EAD your H1 becomes invalid).
Q4: I know I can register DBA in wife's name when she receive EAD? Is that the only option I have?
Please share your thoughts!
TIA.

Hi all,
I am an American and my wife is going though the green card application process. We recently received our interview date. Unfortunately, it was scheduled one day prior to our wedding ceremony which is out of the country. Our wedding is being presided over by the mayor of a fairly large city, with like 300 or so guests and at this point would be impossible to change. At the same time I hear that mixing international travel and rescheduling green card interviews is a risky thing.
We have an infopass scheduled in two weeks, and beyond the supporting documents of our flight and wedding information, is there anything else we should bring to prove that we can't possibly be at this interview? Is this something a lawyer might be able to handle better (like have more credibility)?
Anyone willing to give odds on us successfully changing our interview date?

Some paras from Almost Everyone Lies, Often Seeing It as a Kindness (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/18/AR2007021800915.html).
The perjury trial of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby goes to the jury this week. The case speaks to several issues -- how the Bush administration deals with critics of the war in Iraq, and the games that Washington's reporters and politicians play with each other. As far as the jury is concerned, however, the case is about only one thing: lying.
One particularly well-qualified witness on this subject was not called by either the prosecution or the defense, so today we cross-examine Robert Feldman ourselves. Feldman is a social psychologist at the University of Massachusetts who studies lying in everyday life, and his findings are just the kind of thing that Libby's lawyers could have pounced on.
Feldman's experiments show that stern-faced judicial proceedings about perjury are as remote from the realities of human behavior as President Bush is from the Nobel Peace Prize. For one thing, lying plays a more complex role in human relationships than the black-and-white legal view recognizes. It is also so commonplace in everyday life that putting people on trial for lying is somewhat like putting them on trial for breathing.
Experiments have found that ordinary people tell about two lies every 10 minutes, with some people getting in as many as a dozen falsehoods in that period. More interestingly -- and Libby might see this as the silver lining if he is found guilty -- Feldman also found that liars tend to be more popular than honest people. (Ever notice how popular politicians somehow change their minds on controversial issues such as the war in Iraq at the exact moment that public opinion on those issues changes?)

Indian-born Renu Khator is the president of the University of Houston and the first Indian immigrant to head a major research university. Khator received a Ph.D. in political science and public administration from Purdue University and then went on to spend 20 years rising through the administration ranks at the University of South Florida. She assumed the University of Houston position in January 2008.

I was listening to BBC News last night and heard an interview with a scientist described as one of the world's leading experts on climate change. That scientist is Indian-born Ram Ramanathan, Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric and Climate Sciences at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California in San Diego. He recently won the Tyler Prize which is awarded to the top environmental scientist in the world. UCSD describes Ramanathan: One of the world's leading atmospheric scientists, Ramanathan was the first to show that ozone-depleting aerosols could aggravate the greenhouse effect. In 1980, he correctly predicted that...

My friend's company is India recently applied for his L1B visa. He is scheduled to go for stamping next week. But, another company has already premium-filed his H1B petition and is expected to hear back from the USCIS anytime now.
Here's the question: if he gets his L1B visa first, can he later on try and get his H1B visa and enter the country with the H1 visa? Second, if he goes for H1B stamping with an L1 visa already in his passport, will it affect the visa officer's decision in issuing a H1 visa?
Please chime in if anyone has done this before or has any insight on this matter.

Bumping this story up from the comments. For those of you who have not heard about this, a 95 year old World War II veteran recently has been challenged on his long held belief that he's a US citizen. The story has caught fire on the web and now has more than 20,000 comments. While an elderly veteran may not be the typical subject of a story like this, the general storyline is not actually as rare as you might think. One of my first cases as an immigration lawyer involved a young dental school graduate who only discovered he...

Supporters of stricter border enforcement must have uncorked the champagne yesterday. The Senate, in bipartisan fashion, broke a deadlock over funding and passed S. 3721, a $600 million emergency appropriation that would bring 1,500 more federal enforcers and unmanned aerial drones to the U.S. border. Last week, the requisite number of House members voted "yea" to a similar bill with a $701 million price tag. Some form of enhanced border security legislation is likely to reach the President's desk soon. The Senate's border funding tussle involved a face-off between Republicans (who wanted to pay for the bill by diverting money...
