California taxpayers need to cover higher fees of private lawyers, who are hired by the state as the Attorney General's Office doesn't have the staff to handle all of the cases internally. In some instances, the state has employed outside counsel at hourly rates that reach $450 even while most of its in-house lawyers earn less than half that. Rates can be much higher, if the suits require private attorneys having a particular expertise.
Since January 2008, the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has signed about $24 million in contracts with private lawyers hired because the Attorney General's Office says it's too shorthanded to take the jobs. I am on H1 and working at client place, my parents visited few months back. Some of my friends(who are at client place) in-laws/parents also visited. As long as you produce documents specified, there wont be any prblm with visitor visa.

ALL,
As expected this happened, but it happened sooner than expected.
This expected sooner because CIR was voted out in Senate and this was not thought about by this goverment.
Basically this was a close door arrangement between govt agencies which temporarily wanted to lower the friction by IV AND SIMILAR GROUPS.
BUT finally I believe this will come to a rest once we have new government next year.
Till that we are a tennis ball which can be tossed to any court.
PS: I dont even have I-140 and not even applied for one.
So best of luck to all and me.

For what could become the third year in a row, the Senate on Tuesday evening did not pass an Intelligence Authorization Bill, over the objection of a lone Republican senator whose name is being protected by his colleagues.

Rockefeller IV (D-W.Va.), chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, called the delay "one of the more embarrassing efforts I have been associated with in my 24 years in this body." The panel's vice chairman, Sen. Christopher S. Bond (R-Mo.), took the Senate floor Tuesday and called on "any person who has a hold on this bill to come forward and find out what is in the bill."
Rockefeller and Bond have been working over several months to meet objections to items in the bill that the committee passed last May. With changes that Rockefeller and Bond worked out, the measure was reintroduced Jan. 27 and put on the unanimous consent calendar on Feb. 8.
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, was named by Congressional Quarterly yesterday as the member who put the bill on hold. A DeMint spokesman said the senator's office "does not comment on holds," but other congressional sources said that DeMint was the one.
Those sources said that they believe the hold is due to White House objections to specific provisions, including public disclosure of the national intelligence budget; a requirement for a report on secret CIA prisons; and response to information requests by the committee chairman and vice chairman within 30 days.
"We have to be able to pass authorization bills if we are to have an impact on the intelligence community," Bond said.

Hi, I am in 8th year of H1b with 140 approved (EB3) from company A. I would like to switch to company B and planning to start EB2 quickly to enage a new interesting project . I have following questions related to the same and early advice from you all would be highly appreciated as am running out of time in engaging the new project.
1. Can I do H1 transfer from company A to company B using A's 140 approval after my 6 years of original h1b quota. I am currently on 8th year of h1b.
2. Can I able to port the priority date from company A's EB3 filing with the new EB2 filing from company B?
3. If company A cancels the 140, still can I able to port the PD ?

I tried entering the 9 digits of A# number on the airline website without a success, what is a right syntax?

do I have to file for PERM and I 140 again?
If I have to file 140 can I retain priority date?
Is there any other option for me to escape PERM refiling other than not accepting promotion :)?

If you search the forums, you will find this has been the latest trend , I think for most folks who live and work in CA. Not sure about maintaining the receipt date, I had the same question, but I think the answer is not well known.

Hello All,
I have my H1B immigration interview in New delhi on NOV 4th. I am not sure if this is a problem or not. In 2009 (Nov - Jan) I worked for a small company for designing websites. That employer doesnt have any of my details except my name . But, he said I am on his payroll and issued me few company cheques( I am on OPT at that time). At Feb I need to apply for my OPT extension, that small company dint give me their e verified number so I quit that job and joined a consultancy and applied for OPT extension. I got a new job in March. Now consultancy people filed for my H1 and it got approved. Now I am flying to India and need to get my H1 stamped. Would there be any problem about my last job where they dont have any of my details except my name?

This survey intends to understand the needs of our membership for this provision and collect grassroots information.

I'm glad to see Immigration Voice weighing in on this one. Under some of the versions of health care reform proposals being considered by Congress, legal immigrants could be excluded for five years before they can access the Medicaid and insurance subsidies despite the fact that they pay taxes, are abiding by all of our laws and are often making critical contributions to the success of this country.
